Severne S-2 Freemove ::

Designer Ben Severne seems to work as functional in his loft as he names his sails. Without any gimmicks or playful features – though also equipped with few reinforcements (unprotected mastfoot, batten ends only reinforced on one side, monofilm prevailing in the sail) – the Severne Freemovesail gives a very clean impression. In manoeuvres it pulls itself nearly completely flat above the boom, then only the lowest batten shows a little fullness. But also with little profile the S-2 offers reasonable performance on all courses. Pulled just a little bit flatter it turns into the lightest, most playful manoeuvre-rig in the group. Therefore it doesn’t need to hide from the pure freestyle sails, it’s excellent for throwing, ducking and rotates very neutral.
The flat cut allows also radical wave rides, sheeted out the sail is easy to control even with just one hand. In the jibe the battens slide smoothly without a notable crack to the new side. Bottom line: In freestyle the S-2 beats even pure specialized sails. Seasoned with a huge portion of suitability for waves and enough performance the debutant in the surf-test delivers a damn good figure.
