MATERIALS:
- MetaleX II: New and improved version of our origional MetaleX. Now with twisted Aramid fibres for increased strength, and reduced weight.
- KS Optic X-Ply: Twisted Spectra and Aramid fibres give unprecedented strength, allowing wider spacing for vision. Used in the window area of selected sails.
- K3 X-ply: 3mil X-ply laminate, with high Aramid content to give the stretch characteristics of a material 20% heavier. Used to reduce weight in selected sails.
- K6 X-ply: 6mil Aramid X-ply laminate. Used in heavy duty applications.
- K2 WarpPly: 2mil Aramid reinforcing laminate. Used to reduce perimeter stretch.
- Monofilm: High quality Japanese films, in varying thicknesses.
- Dura-Sleeve: Sleeve specific material, high durability with good stretch qualities.
- Battens: 8mm rod, PrePreg glass tubes and PrePreg Carbon tubes are selected for each application.
- Dacron: 175g warp oriented Dacron by Polyant.

RIG ERGONOMICS
A unique focus for SEVERNE Sails is rig ergonomics. By analysing the overall effect the sails' geometry has on the sailor, we are able to build sails that are more comfortable to use in a larger range of conditions.
Technically this is achieved through analysing the following points;
Placement of the centre of effort (CoE) in the rig, rake angles, pitch and sheeting angles. Once analysed and adjusted we are able to deliver the most comfortable stance possible for each design.
SEVERNE sails have a larger "sweet spot" or area of sailing trim where the rig performs more efficiently. This translates into rigs that are significantly more predictable, and allows the sailor to easily respond to changing wind and water conditions.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY:
SEVERNE sails have come to fruition in response to the lack of true performance oriented sails currently in the market. Currently traditional sails sacrifice a great deal of their feel for perceived performance goals: Wind range is one thing, yet the total sail performance holds so much more. A lot of sails that the team have used in the past have proved frustrating due to their unresponsive and dead feel; SEVERNE has developed a much more responsive set of sails, that retain their control over a wide spectrum of use.
Dropped into a bottom turn or initiating a high-speed gybe, power is instantaneous and smooth. Drive is locked low and forward in the sail, giving a predictable and balanced feel throughout it's wind range.
These are purist sails, designed with performance and the handling capabilities that extend their ease of use.
SHAPING TECHNIQUES:
At SEVERNE we take a different approach to the design of all our sails; the 3D position of each point on the entire foil is specified to the sub-millimetre, so as to be less reliant on mast curve. Then all this intricate seam shaping is held in place by a complex web of internal Kevlarš reinforcing.
The result is a much more consistent foil shape when the mast is being loaded and unloaded in extreme conditions. This translates into wider wind ranges, and a more balanced, consistent feel at all times.
SPEED & RESPONSE:
The idea is to make the "sports car" of windsurfing sails. Superior handling, an active feel with balance that allows you to utilise the rig as your power source, as and when desired.
These foils are built for performance; engineered light so they react immediately to wind, water and rider input. They are very spontaneous sails, reactive so that instant decisions can be taken without the sail dynamics taking time to catch up.
Speed is always a priority with racing sails, which seems to have been forgotten recently in the freeride market. At SEVERNE we have focused on all the standard freeride factors and then tuned the sails up for maximum speed.
DURABILITY THROUGH DESIGN:
We need our sails to be strong, but are not willing to compromise on weight; rather than use the traditional approach of just beefing up high load / stress areas with heavy materials, we have concentrated on balancing the skin tensions, and using high tech materials such as Kevlarš and aluminium for reinforcing. Vulnerable stitching near the tack has been protected with an innovative folded patch technique.
STYLING:
We believe windsurfing is about bright colours: spectacular colours on the water were one of the original things that made windsurfing explode years ago. We want to bring that back and add an ultra-modern style. Bold colours and graphics are used throughout the sail line that will make you stand out and be noticed.
HOMOGENOUS BATTEN CONCEPT: The Homogenous Batten Concept was developed to produce a more consistent feel between sail sizes, whilst using a minimum number of masts. This was achieved by varying the number of battens in the different sizes within a range.
For example, the larger S-1's now have 6 battens, the mid sizes have 5 battens, and the smallest has 4 battens. This enables them to all be used on the same 400cm mast, and maintain very similar characteristics between each sail size. Now, a particular sail model is not defined by how many battens it has, but rather it's purpose and intended feel.
