The SSR is developed with a singular focus -- to give the competitor a
technological edge and win races. Double-surfaced entry increases
laminar flow and reduces drag. A 3-stage gradient batten configuration,
consisting of 13mm pre-preg carbon tubes, 10mm glass tubes and a tapered
front promotes a smoother, more stable profile. Lightweight laminates in the
sleeve and Aramid reinforcing help to reduce the total rig weight, which is
especially evident in the larger sizes.
FORMULA 10.0 - 11.8
Through ongoing developments, the devastating speed of the SSR has been taken
to a new level. For 2006 the SSR Formula sizes use deeper, powerful profiles
below the boom while staying with the finer profiles above. This reduces the
down-force on the board as sail size increases. The 10.0 features an 8
batten / 5 cam configuration, while the 11.0 and 11.8 has 9 battens / 5
cams. Our 9 Batten configuration in the larger SSR has fast become an
industry benchmark (Yes, we did it first!) This extra batten in the bigger
sizes allows us to run more shape below the boom giving a balanced feel
throughout the line. The 11.8 features a lower aspect ratio than the other
sizes for increased power and control, making it ideal for heavier sailors.
SPEED / SLALOM 4.6 - 8.6
With the Dave White production board speed record, the speed pedigree of the SSR
is clear. Tailored for optimum reaching and down wind performance,
shaping is more evenly distributed above and below the boom than on the
Formula sizes to give positive drive through the board and fin and reduced
tail-walking tendencies. Sizes 5.6 - 8.6 are 8 battens / 4 cams and the 4.6 has 7 battens / 4 cams.
Rig Ergonomics: Reduced back foot pressure allows the rider to transfer weight in gusts for
instant acceleration bursts.
Board type: Suited to Race, Slalom, and Speed boards.
